The H3 is the smallest addition to the Hummer line-up. Based on the Chevrolet Trailblazer platform, it is a midsized, five-passenger 4WD wagon that carries the military design cues and off-road capabilities of the Hummer H1, but puts them in a smaller and ultimately more affordable package. The H3 provides a good level of off-roading equipment, with luxury features to boot, and at a very good price. With rising petrol prices, the H3 is awkwardly marketed by touting its improved fuel economy for a Hummer, though still hardly impressive. The first-year 2006 models, built in USA, came with a 3.5-litre inline-5 briefly. The South-African-built 2007-onwards models come with a new 3.7-litre five-cylinder engine, with a standard five-speed manual or an optional four-speed automatic. The H3 delivers serious off-road capability, with low-range gearing and good ground clearance. The base price includes cloth seating for five, power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, a CD audio system, cruise control and all-terrain tyres on 16-inch wheels. Safety features include ABS brakes, traction control, frontal and side-impact airbags and a tyre-pressure monitoring system. Options include leather seating, chrome wheels, in-dash six-CD changer, navigation, a power sunroof and more.
